The
project begins. Other than the most fundamental carpentry knowledge,
no special skills are required. Each table is simple to construct,
and can be finished within a couple of hours. All that is needed is
lumber, screws, and glue, as well as basic hand tools. |
 |
Two
tables were constructed using SPF 1x4 lumber. The front side uses
a 1x6, while the legs are 4x4. The top is ½" plywood.
Once finished, these tables are sturdy enough to support the full
weight of an adult. |
 |
Except
for the top, this table is finished. Care should be used to ensure
the table is square before fastening the top. This can be achieved
by standing at diagonally opposite corners with an assistant, and
gently applying any "tweaks" which may be necessary. Once
the two diagonal measurements are equal, the table is square. |
 |
A
detailed look at how a leg is attached. Two 3/8 x 6" bolts were
used for each leg. This was required in order to avoid the use of
lower leg braces, thus freeing up valuable storage space below. |
 |
The
tables measure 54" x 96" each. An extra 6" of plywood
was needed to complete the tops. |
 |
The
two tables were placed end to end and bolted together. The back side
was screwed to the wall studs. |
 |
Almost
finished. |

The
front panel is painted, and driver control plugs and drink holders
are installed. |

Two
completed tables, ready to be covered. |
 |
A
look at the underside. The tables were removed while the room was
painted. |
 |
Paint, carpet,
and pot lights finish things off.

 |
The
room measures 16' x 10'. |
 |
The
room finally finished. |
 |
The
pot lights operate on a dimmer switch, providing a warm feel. |
 |
The
tables are covered with an indoor/outdoor carpet, available from a
big box home improvement store. |
 |
The
track is ready to assemble. |
 |
The carpet is
temporarily installed in these photos.
